Awa VS. Malasakit

Sympathy vs. Compassion

What's the difference between these almost equal words? They're the same right? But,try to state each term.

Sympathy means that its the ability to enter into, understand, or share somebody else's feelings. In someways, the word is special. But, is there any circumstances that this word makes you feel that you're effort of being just sympathetic is not enough? (Oo nga, naaawa ka nga, pero wala ka namang ginawagawa para mawala ang dahilan kung bakit ka naaawa.) So, being sympathetic is not enough, everyone must at least do something to make the reason of  'awa' disappear.

For example, you saw some children begging for some penny. First, there's a feeling that you wanted to give but after a while that feeling disappeared because of some reason. Maybe, you had thought that this might be a gimmick of a syndicate trafficking juveniles to ask money from people. Sometimes over thinking make people dumb.

Why not just help? Why think something that's not negative?  Wala naman sigurong mawawala sa'yo diba? Why not just GIVE? Its better to give than to receive, right? (Kasi nga, naawa ka lang. Wala ka ng magagawa pa. Kasi yun na 'yon eh. Ganun na talaga kapalaran nila. Maging mahirap. Kasalanan na nila 'yon kasi hindi sila nagsikap. Kasalanan na nila 'yon kasi nga asa lang sila ng asa sa 'awa' na ibinibigay ng ibang tao.)

Sympathy to doubt; doubt to complain; complain to nothing.

Compassion, its a combination of sympathy for the sufferings of others plus the desire to help them. The word sounds more extra-ordinary, right? Its easier to understand as well. Its not just 'awa' its 'pagmamalasakit'. Its a different word that can make other people's lives change. It doesn't need more explanation. Its simple as it is. Compassion. Its a feeling that make you act to do something not because its an obligation but because it is the right thing to do.

I can't even think an example, because being compassionate is part of every human being's character. I don't need to cite any instances because... - 'yun na 'yon.

Compassion to decision; decision to transformation; transformation to humanity.

I got inspired on what Kara David said at Comm Guild.
